Summary: Organizing into companies with
captains.
Journal entry: Friday. The company were
called together in the morning, and numbered 143 men. Elder Geo.
A. Smith, Pres. H.C. Kimball, and I preached.
The company was organized in a military capacity, and on motion
of Dr. W. Richrds, I nominated Col. Stephen Markham and A. P. Rockwood
captains of hundreds. Tarlton Lewis, James Case, Addison Everett,
John Pack, and Shadrach Roundy were elected Captains of Fifties.
Captains were also elected into four watches to be on duty half
the night at a time.
