The sunlight was glaring today. We had sacrament at 10:30 A.M.
in the camp. It was agreeable to do this on an open field, but because
sunlight was so glaring, I attended it with a bottle of water. I
really felt that my strength had declined because of the heat. I
wandered about the camp to look for the shade, but places which
looked cool were already taken by somebody, so I couldnåt relax
easily. As the inside of our tent had became like a greenhouse,
it was impossible to stay there. When the wind decreased, the weather
became stuffy.
My children, Yuji and Koji, bathed in the Platte River as they
did yesterday. This river has a depth of about a waist height and
flows slowly. The banks of the river are reedy like Hokkaido's in
Japan. To stay cool my children spent time gathering colorful sands
of the river. It was also a busy day today with interviewers from
the mass media, and a man - a return Mormon missionary who served
in Japan - and his family visiting us. I spent the day acting as
a guide explaining to our visitors our trek.
