Journal entry:
We arrived in Genoa, Nebraska at lunch time. When we arrived it
became a beautiful day. The sun was shinning and we were running
around camp barefoot. I rode a pony bareback. It was fun. I ride
a lot better than I remembered. Matt ( a camp jack) was riding one
of the other ponies as well. He didn't fare as well. When the ponies
started to trot, he held on for dear life. He was slipping and sliding
all over the pony's back. He almost fell off. He was yellin' and
hollerin'. He thought he was going to die. It was a funny sight
to behold.
About 7 p.m. that night it started to rain heavily, along with
strong winds. The nice people of Genoa said the tent people could
use their barn to bunk down in for the night. It was a great way
to meet people on the train. I t was a party in the top part of
the barn. We sang songs, played the guitar and violin. We even played
some card games. Parts of the roof of the barn leaked. We didn't
care; we were so gratetful to not be out in the weather facing the
elements. There was even a tornado warning that night!! We didn't
know about that until the morning.
The next morning we pulled out around 7:15 a.m. to a cold and wet
day. Most people's spirits were still high. We still found some
time to sing on the wagons in the afternoon. signing off. Wendy
