Brigham Young Journals
July 4, 1847
Summary: Meeting up with some of the Mormon Battalion.
Journal entry: Sunday. I went back to the ferry with my
brother, Phinehas H. Young and four others who had volunteered to
return untill they met the emigrants from Winter Quarters and pilot
them on to this point.
While at the ferry I had the pleasure of meeting thirteen battalion
brethren who were in pursuit of stolen animals which they had mostly
recovered.
The Pioneers were so pleased to behold the battalion brethren that
they gave three cheers, and I led out in exclaiming, "Hosannah!
Hosannah! Give glory to God and the Lamb, Amen," in which all joined
simultaneously.
Council decided that Thomas Williams and Sam. Brannan return and
meet Captn. Brown and the battalion company from Pueblo, and inasmuch
as they have neither received their discharge nor their full pay,
Bro. Brannan should tender them his services as pilot to conduct
them to California.
