Pioneer: Patty Bartlett Sessions (Ashley - 4th Grade)

Patty Sessions was a pioneer midwife. She crossed the plains and drove an ox team most of the way. She and her family were members of the second wagon company leaving from Winter Quarters. She kept a journal of her journey and wrote in it for 40 years. She arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 25, 1847. She delivered nearly 4,000 babies during her career. This record earned her the title of "Mother of Mormon Midwifery." Patty had the pioneer spirit of perseverance, preparation, sacrifice, and adventure. I admire her because she had great skills and liked to help people. Many Mormon mothers and children owe their lives to her.
