Pioneer: Thomas Alva Edison (Jenna - 4th Grade)

Description: 4th Grade Jenna's picture to accompany her report on pioneer Thomas Alva Edison. Image courtesy of: Heritage Gateway Project Images, These images have been gathered to support the Sesquicentennial celebration of the immigration to Utah.

Thomas Alva Edison was born in 1847, the same year the Mormon Pioneers began coming to Utah. In 1879 he invented the electric light. This invention made it possible for us to see after dark. This gives us more time to enjoy fun things and accomplish important work. Edison had many failures, but kept trying different ways to make his invention work. Finally, he was successful. Edison was a pioneer because he had to persevere and have an optimistic attitude. His invention is very helpful to every person in the world, and it led to more discoveries about light.
