Daniel George (Dan) Whitaker Journals

April 23, 1997

Location: Elkhorn River Crossing - 986 miles left, Nebraska - (nine rods wide, three feet deep) - 27 miles from Winter Quarters. Seven miles south and further west, over the Elkhorn River, members of the first company camped here April 11, 1847.

Summary: Mud and broken collarbone.

Journal entry: We camped in Elk Horn tonight. Our wagon got stuck in the mud at lunch. About 7 people helped push it out.

A man fell over backwards on his horse and broke his collarbone. Muddy day. Talk to ya tomarrow. danny
