Location: Elkhorn River Crossing - 986 miles left, Nebraska - (nine rods wide, three feet deep) - 27 miles from Winter Quarters. Seven miles south and further west, over the Elkhorn River, members of the first company camped here April 11, 1847.

Journal entry: Dear people of the world
Today was the second day on the trail. It was cold and rainy and still is. Today a guy named Leon Harword fell off his horse and broke some ribs his clavical and his colar bone. Are horse today opened are food cabinet on the side of are wagon and broke it. Cracked it write in two.
