Pioneer: William Reed (Gary - 4th Grade)

My great, great grandfather was a coal miner, starting at age 14, in Lancashire, England. His goal was to get out of the mines and become a chainmaker. He hated the coal mines because the dust would get down his throat and he could die.

He brought his family to America between 1879 and 1884, sending one boy with grandparents in 1879. In 1881 he came to America and went to the mines in Wyoming for money to bring his other children here. A desire for a better life and religious beliefs brought him and his family.
